Featuring my favorite doulas, midwives, and mama fitness trainers
Barbara Verneus has been an active participant in the social services field since 1999 and began doula work in 2003 helping other women bring about precious life into the world.
She has volunteered overseas in Senegal, West Africa for the African Birth Collective and also in Brooklyn, NY at Dyekora Sumda Midwifery Servicesas a midwife assistant to midwives. She has also been employed as a Live-Advisor at Pathways PA to teenage mothers.
Barbara desires to serve families in the urban community; and overseas, such as Haiti in the near future.
Barbara has completed her Master's in Counseling with a concentration in Marriage and Family, particularly seeking to counsel women who have experienced trauma. Grieved by the abuse of women and children and the lack of value of the urban family; she seeks to help reemphasize the importance of the family unit because all parties are vital to the development of the urban community and family. She has always worked with women through the amazing process of witnessing another woman walk in her own power-emotionally, mentally, physically and/or spiritually. Barbara has served women in various settings from the public health initiative based out of Boston University to a local women's group. Read more on www.tinyandbrave.com
Sanctum Birth Doula and Apothecary is the fruition of a lifetime's worth of hopes and dreams, made manifest. I come from a family of healers, cooks, and dreamers. Everything I do, is a culmination of love, labor, and sacrifice, with the understanding that it is all bigger than me. My deepest desires in life have led me to synthesize my need to create and nurture, with the mental output required to advocate for those who cannot do so for themselves.
As a DONA International trained doula, I am committed to providing you with the highest standard of care during this, your most sacred time. I honor our time together, and prioritize your concerns. It is my sacred honor to accompany you and assist you in the birthing process of your precious new baby. Please email me to schedule a consultation, to see if I am the right doula for you.
Maiden, Matron, and Crone. May we all be blessed.

Although I have only been a practicing midwife for 10 years, midwifery has always been a part of my life. I am the mother of 5 daughters, all natural births, and 4 of whom were born at home with a midwife. Of my 21 grandchildren, all were born vaginally, 20 were natural, 3 were born at home, and 10 were born at the birth center. I believe that only a small percentage (less than 10%) of births require a c-section and because hospitals today have such a high rate of c-section (40%-80%) birth centers and midwives are necessary to give moms the best chance of a "normal" birth. I became a midwife to give women the option to choose the type of birth they want and the setting for their birth. I love caring for women and being a part of the "the miracle of birth".
